I don't provide a client wardrobe and I would never dictate a certain look, each individual is different and it is super important that you consider your families personal style and preference, this will be essential to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera!
This being said, there are some important factors to consider in order to achieve timeless images with a strong cohesive look. Read on for my top tips...
COORDINATE, DON'T MATCH.
When choosing colours and styles: Decide on a set of colours that work well together. There is lots of help on pinterest of different colour pallettes that compliment each other, think:
- Pale blue, white and grey
- Khaki, beige and brown
- Denim, cream, mustard and navy
A good way to begin is by choosing a couple of main colours and then incorporate them in different ways throughout the outfits. Be mindful of clashing colours and patterns!
Avoid being too matchy matchy, i.e everyone in a white shirt and jeans, it will draw the attention to your clothes rather than you and your family connection.
KEEP IT CLASSIC
My goal is to create timeless images that will be cherished for years to come. The best way to achieve a classic feel to your images is by avoiding trends that might quickly look outdated.
Steer away from any big logo's as this is the fastest way to date an image, I might be showing my age here but if you were growing up in the 90's I can guarantee you have a family photo with your dad/uncle/brother in a sweatershop jumper! #RIPsweatershop ha!
Location Location Location
Think about your surroundings. Colour palettes that suit the coast in spring will differ to those that would look great in an autumnal woodland backdrop.
MAKE IT INTERESTING
Adding layers creates depth and interest to outfits. Obviously this one can be quite seasonal but consider adding jackets, overshirts, scarves, or accessories that complement the overall look.
COMFORT IS KEY
I like my photo sessions to include movement and it is essential for little ones to be able to run free, if you feel comfortable in your clothes you will naturally feel more at ease in front of the camera.
The same premise is true for footwear, think about your setting. For example if your session is at the beach opt for suitable footwear (or something easy to slip off and go bare foot.) If you chose a muddy woodland location in Autumn don't rock up in sandals!
