A Valentine’s Day Wedding
After a week of grey skies and rain, Danni and Matt somehow landed the only dry day of the week for their wedding at Thursford... and not just dry, but beautifully sunny too. For a Valentine’s Day wedding, it felt pretty perfect. Crisp winter air, golden light, and a day full of emotion from start to finish.
There’s something undeniably romantic about getting married on Valentine’s Day. While it might seem like an obvious choice for celebrating love, it actually felt really personal and fitting for Danni and Matt. With the winter sun shining and such an emotional ceremony, the whole day felt warm and full of heart despite the February chill.
Valentine’s Day weddings often lean into reds and pinks, but Danni’s bridesmaids in deep jewel green dresses brought a beautifully rich winter palette that felt elegant and timeless. It worked perfectly with the cosy atmosphere of a February celebration.
Morning Prep at Holly Lodge
The morning preparations had such a lovely energy about them. Danni’s bridesmaids looked incredible and more importantly, they were the dream team, calm, organised and completely on it, making sure the morning flowed effortlessly.
Danni herself was the most thoughtful bride, even preparing gift bags for the suppliers, which was such a kind and unexpected touch. It really set the tone for the whole day.
One of the most emotional moments before the ceremony was Danni’s first look with her dad. Those quiet few seconds before a wedding ceremony often hold so much meaning, and this one definitely had a few misty eyes in the room.
Winter Weddings Done Right
Winter weddings sometimes get a reputation for being dark or gloomy, but Danni and Matt’s day proved the opposite.
The light may disappear earlier in February, but it also creates some of the most romantic moments of the day, especially with a carefully planned timeline!
We slipped away for a quick set of couple portraits just before dusk, catching the last of the winter light before celebrating with confetti just before evening fell. That soft twilight glow always feels magical in photos and perfectly matched the atmosphere of the day.
And of course, winter weddings come with the added bonus of sparklers after dark, which brought such a fun and cosy energy to the evening celebrations.
A Beautifully Emotional Ceremony
Their ceremony was filled with personal touches that made it incredibly special.
Danni walked down the aisle to the beautiful voice of Saskia Sings, whose live vocals created such an emotional atmosphere in the room. There’s something about live music during a ceremony that just elevates the moment, and this was no exception.
One of the most memorable parts of the ceremony was the reading from Danni and Matt’s nephew, who absolutely stole the show. Standing up in front of a room full of people isn’t easy at any age, but he did such an amazing job and had everyone smiling.
A Wedding Venue Like No Other
Thursford really is one of the most unique wedding venues in Norfolk, and Danni and Matt fully embraced everything that makes it so special.
Guests could enjoy gondola rides and the carousel, which created such a fun, playful atmosphere throughout the drinks reception. It’s the kind of venue where there’s always something happening, and the excitement from guests made it even more special.
We also snuck away briefly to the secret garden for a few portraits, a hidden little corner that feels worlds away from the buzz of the main space.
Making the Most of Winter Light
Winter weddings always come with a bit of a race against the daylight, but they also bring the most beautiful soft light.
We kept couple portraits short and sweet, heading outside just before sunset to catch the last of the day’s glow. As the light faded, guests gathered for confetti just as dusk settled, creating such a romantic moment between day and evening celebrations.
That soft winter twilight always adds something magical to wedding photos.
