Let’s Talk About Second Shooters

My most popular wedding package includes two photographers.

And honestly? There’s a very good reason for that.

In simple terms, two photographers are better than one.

When I photograph a wedding solo, I can only ever be in one place at one time. I can still tell your story (and tell it really bloody well), but it’s told from a single perspective.

Adding a second photographer brings another layer, another viewpoint, and a fuller, richer story of your day.

Morning Prep: Two Stories, Told Properly

One of the biggest advantages of having a second photographer is that we can document both of you getting ready.

I always encourage couples not to underestimate the importance of the wedding morning. It’s such an emotionally charged part of the day, the anticipation, the nerves, the excitement bubbling away in the background. It’s often quieter, more intimate, and incredibly real.

Some of my absolute favourite images from a wedding day are created during this time. With two photographers, neither of you has to miss out on having those moments captured.

More Candid Moments (The Ones You Never See)

You’ve probably heard this a thousand times already, but it’s true — your wedding day will fly by. And there will be moments you don’t see.

This is where the magic of having two photographers really comes into its own.

While I whisk you away for group photos or portraits, my second photographer can stay back with your guests, quietly documenting all the in-between moments, the hugs, the laughter, the reactions, the chaos. The bits you didn’t even realise were happening.

When you receive your gallery, these are often the images that stop couples in their tracks.

Alternative Angles, Fuller Storytelling

Having a second photographer isn’t about duplicating shots, it’s about adding depth.

While I’m focused on the main action, a second photographer can capture alternative angles and reactions, allowing your day to be told from both of your perspectives. Think ceremony reactions, wide shots alongside close-ups, moments happening simultaneously.

It all adds up to a more complete story of your wedding.

Guests Arriving

This one comes back to the same simple truth, I can only be in one place at one time.

If morning prep runs perfectly to schedule (and let’s be honest… that’s rare), depending on the distance between venues I may be able to head off in time to photograph guests arriving. But having a second photographer means these moments are guaranteed.

No rushing. No pressure. Just calm, seamless coverage from start to finish.

So, Is a Second Photographer Worth It?

If you value:

* Candid, emotional storytelling

* Both of you having meaningful morning prep photos

* Seeing moments you didn’t even know happened

Then a second photographer is one of the best investments you can make in your wedding photography.

Because your day deserves to be remembered from more than one point of view.
